Physical attributes leaked: what it means and what to do

Risk level: medium. Can you change it: no. Found in 11 breaches in this directory.

What this data is

Details describing your body and appearance, such as height, weight, build, eye colour, hair colour and body type, common on dating, fitness and health services.

The risk on its own

Height or eye colour alone is not a security risk. Weight, body type and health related details can be sensitive, and on adult or dating services they can be embarrassing. Some ID documents also list height and eye colour.

The risk combined with other data

With your name, photo and location, physical attributes help someone recognise you in person. On dating or adult services they help link a private profile to your real identity. Weight and body measurements from fitness or health apps can also be used for harassment or unwanted targeted advertising.

How criminals use it

  • A stalker combines your photo, height and suburb from a dating profile to identify you in person.
  • Body weight and measurements from a fitness app are used to harass or shame you.
  • Dating profile attributes help match an anonymous profile to your social media.
  • Weight loss scam ads target people whose leaked data shows a higher weight.

What to do now

  1. Remove physical details from dating and social profiles unless they are essential.
  2. Delete old dating and fitness accounts you no longer use.
  3. Check fitness and health app privacy settings and turn off public profiles or leaderboards.
  4. Report and block anyone who uses your appearance details to harass you, and keep evidence.
  5. Change the password on the breached account and check what else leaked.

Frequently asked questions

Is it a problem that my height and eye colour leaked?

Not much by itself. It matters more when combined with photos and location, or when the details are sensitive such as weight or body measurements.

Can physical attributes identify me?

Alone, rarely. Combined with a photo, suburb or workplace, they make recognising you much easier.

Should I delete my dating profile?

If you no longer use it, yes. Deleting it stops future leaks of your photos, messages and profile details.
